Albertus Viljoen is an Associate and an intern landscape architect with a background in landscape architecture, urban design, planning, and project management. He is passionate about the outdoors, people, culture, and history, and strives to create environments that are enjoyed by individuals and meaningful to their communities. Professionally, his passion for the environment has led to a focus on sustainable design, and an interest in marrying culture, ecology, the environment, and rehabilitation to allow both people and nature to thrive.

Albertus was part of the project design team and landscape architect for the Steyn City Parkland Estate development, noted as the largest development of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Since joining Brook McIlroy, Albertus has been involved in a broad variety of project scales and types, including waterfront developments, historic preservations, streetscapes, trail design, cultural placemaking, and institutional landscapes. He manages many of Brook McIlroy’s landscape architecture projects in Northern Ontario.

Albertus holds a Bachelor, Honours and Master of Landscape architecture from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Outside the office, he gives back to the Thunder Bay community through his role on the City of Thunder Bay’s Clean, Green, & Beautiful Committee.
