Brook McIlroy is honoured to sponsor Radical Stitch at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. Beading is a defining medium of contemporary Indigenous art in North America and this exhibition highlights some of its most innovative and talented practitioners. Curated by Sherry Farrell Racette, Michelle Lavallee, and Cathy Mattes, Radical Stich showcases how knowledge transfer and cultural adaptation have enabled these artists to use traditional techniques and materials to create contemporary works of celebration and resistance. As part of the Gallery’s programming around this exhibition a Symposium including community beading events are planned in the new year – stay tuned!
Radical Stitch opened on October 13th and continues to March 13, 2024. Next stop, the National Gallery in Ottawa. You do not want to miss it.
