National Day of Truth & Reconciliation

Last Friday, we welcomed Sarah Midanik, President & CEO of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, to speak to us about the history and mission of the organization. The Downie Wenjack Fund maintains educational resources to schools and communities about Indigenous histories and cultures. They also work with institutions and corporations on the creation of Legacy Spaces, which are rooms dedicated to Truth & Reconciliation.

Today is the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We have closed our offices in observance for the day, which is held in honour of Orange Shirt Day as well being a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #80. We stand in solidarity with the lost children and survivors of residential schools, and encourage all to take the day as one for learning, reflection — and action.
