Reanna Merasty is Woodlands Cree, and is a member of Barren Lands First Nation. She completed her undergraduate degree in Environmental Design at the University of Manitoba (UofM), where she is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture. Reanna has experience in community engagement, and her work builds upon place-based conditions, organic design, and strives to incorporate Indigenous values and knowledges with design. Being Indigenous in the field of Architecture, allows Reanna to regain and express her identity as a nihithaw iskwew (Woodlands Cree Woman). With this strong sense of identity, she is influenced by her exposure to the natural and sustainable living conditions on the lands and waters of Reindeer Lake, in Northern Manitoba. Residing from an isolated community, Reanna understands the conditions, climate, and the materials that would adhere to the proper development of Indigenous communities. She hopes to use the experience, and knowledge to assist in the progress of these conditions through design.
